Gender and Colorism

Women experience more racism and colorism in the society, at job and school. Colorism is gendered  in Asian and Africa.  According to a study the use of skin whitening products is more common among women than men. There's this stereotype that black women are less desirable in romance.  A lighter-skinned women are more likely to get married as they are precieved as beautiful, softer and feminine.  Women of color face discrimination in many forms at different places from their childhood.  Women of color are likely to push back in a queue to trophy  despite their merit and accomplishments. Woman of color always takes the risk to lighter their skin tone to get better position in the society and life.

Consequences of Colorism on Mental Health

Colorism affects mental health in a negative way. When I was in school, I was objectified to black color objects like pen, black board. After bearing of long term discrimination and racial attitudes of people, the mental of the victim is immensely affected.  The first outcoming of bullying is lack of self-confidence and worthiness. Other mental disorders include anxiety, depression and lack of sleep. Discrimination on the basis of skin tone make someone to internalize colorism, now they don't feel confident about their own body and skin tone. They start using harmful chemicals to bleach out their skin. Colorism And Career Opportunities

In entertainment Industry, mostly woman with lighter skin tone are preferred. This preferential based choice is merely stereotype belief about a particular skin type. At other workplaces darker-skinned women face inequality which affects their mental health. At workplaces race and skin tone is one of thing that affects the decision making and perception of an individual.  Sometimes skin tone is also linked to lower income and poverty dues to the conception that dark-skinned people labor in the exposure of the Sun. Meanwhile light-skinned people are associated to privilege and indoor work. Darker skin color has an negative impact on employment opportunities. Many dark women today have real experience regarding colorism at their jobs. Men are also not clear out of it. In Asian countries like India, Philippines and Indonesia, it is common practice of differential behavior for colored people.

Colorism is still a thing in beauty industry in the most parts of world. Today beauty products contribute to  multi-billion dollars industry and skin whitening products bring a major segment of revenue in Southern Asian and African countries. The skin lightening products is tormenting the mindset of woman and man.  Black skin color is somewhere a definition of applying skin whitening products to get clean look. There aren't many shades and makeup essentials available for a colored individual to highlight their facial and beautiful features.  Not all skin color foundation are available in all parts of the world. One can rarely find foundation for dark-skinner tone. The popular skin care companies try to bring products which only signify the presence of colorism.

Color Of Change

Color of Change is a civil rights association, founded in 2005 by James Rucker and Van Jones to use internet for the help of African Americans.  The aim of the organization is to strengthen political voice of Black People and respond positively to injustice in the world.  Color of Change has 7 million members all over the world.  This online organization was started after Hurricane Kartina broke out in New Orleans in 2005. It was set to provide support for hurricane victims especially African-Americans.  The organization also requests company to alter their policies, products and behavior to reduce racial inequality.  Color of Change also initiated hashtags such as #ChangeIndustries and #ChangeHollywood to eradicate racism in film industry.
